CIUS (Gîrliciu) Dobrudja, Romania.

Roman military settlement and port, on the road between Carsium and Troesmis. In the 4th c., a cavalry squadron (cuneus equitum stablesianorum) was stationed here. The fortress was rebuilt by Valens (369) after his victory over the Goths N of Danube. No archaeological excavations have been undertaken. Traces of walls surrounded by a ditch and a rampart are visible.
