IRUN (“Oiarson”) Guipúzcoa, Spain.

There is scant mention of this place, 18 km E of San Sebastian, in ancient sources. Strabo (3.4.10) gives Oiasuna (Οἰασῦνα) as the terminus of Augustus' highway, which ran from Tarraco through Pompaelo and ended here (cf. Ptol. 2.5.10). The region was noted for its mines. Recent excavations have yielded terra sigillata and the remains of a Roman ship (now in course of publication).
