DERVENTIO (Papcastle) Cumberiand, England.

A fort for a milliary cohort or cavalry ala, probably a Trajanic foundation with occupation continuing until the late 4th c. Inscriptions record the presence of Legio VIII and, in the mid 3d c., the Cuneus Frisonum Aballavensium Phillipianorum. There was a civil settlement.
