[677] Euryalos, except a passing mention in 6.20, occurs only in the Catalogue, 2.565-66 (see note), where he is third in command of the Argives, under Diomedes and Sthenelos. The former is his kinsman — first cousin once removed in blood, and first cousin by marriage. For Adrastos and Mekisteus were brothers, sons of Talaos; Euryalos is son of Mekisteus, Diomedes is grandson of Adrastos through Deïpyle, whose sister Aigialeia he has married (5.412). This explains the personal interest shewn in 681.
