Τρι^βαλλοί (on the accent, v. Hdn.Gr.1.158), οἱ,
A.the Triballi, a people on the borders of Thrace (v. Hdt.4.49): hence as a Comic name for barbarian gods, Ar.Av.1529, 1533, 1627; “ούδ᾽ ἐν Τριβαλλοῖς ταῦτά γ᾽ ἐστὶν ἔννομαAlex.241; καὶ ποὺ μὲν καλὸν τὸν πατέρα θύειν, οἷον ἐν T. Arist. Top.115b23:—Adj. Τρι^βαλλικός , ή, όν, Hdt.4.49.
II. a slang term for young fellows who lounge about taverns, etc., like the 'Mohocks' of Addison's time, D.54.39:—hence the Comic exaggeration Τρι^βαλλο-ποπα^νό-θρεπτα μειρακύλλια, tavern-bred Mohocks, Eub.75.3 (Casaubon for Τριβαλλο-πανό-θρεπτα: Meineke suggests Τριβαλλο-μαμμό-θρεπτα, and Kock defends the Ms. reading).
