ἀμέθυστος , ον, (μεθύω)
A.not drunken, without drunkenness, Plu.2.464c: Comp., Gp.7.34.2.
II. not intoxicating, perh. so used in Nonn.D.19.133: as Subst., ἀμέθυστον, τό, remedy against drunkenness, Archig. ap. Gal.12.572, Dsc.Eup.1.24; also ἀμέθυστος, , Plu. 2.15b, Ath.1.34c:—hence, such things as were supposed to act as remedies, viz.,
1. kind of herb, Plu.2.647b; = σέλινον ἄγριον, Ps.-Dsc.2.175.
2. amethyst, LXX Ex.28.19, Apoc.21.20, D.P. 1122, AP5.204, 9.748 (Pl. Jun.):—also ἀμέθυστον , τό, IG11(2).287B22 (Delos, iii B.C.).
3. ἀμέθυστον , τό, kind of grape, Colum.3.2.24.
