A.glue, cement, τι περὶ τὸν τράχηλον, τι πρός τι, Pl. Ti.75d, 82d; “ἐπιστύλια ἐπὶ τοὺς κίοναςIG22.1668.46; mend a broken vessel, ib.11(2).161A 111 (Delos, iii B.C.), POxy.1449.15 (iii A.D.).
2. join one metal or other substance to another, κ. χρυσὸν ἔν τε λευκὸν ἐλέφαντα, i.e. make [a crown] inlaid with gold and ivory, Pi.N.7.78:—Pass., κολλώμενα glued together, opp. γομφούμενα, Ar. Eq.463; κολλώμενος σίδηρος welded iron, Plu.2.619a; “στραγγαλὶς χρυσᾶ κεκολλημένηPOxy.1449.23 (iii A.D.).
II. generally, join fast together, unite, “ἄλφιτον ὕδατιEmp.34; χαλκὸν ἐπ᾽ ἀνέρι κολλᾶν, of one applying a cupping-glass, Cleobulina 1, cf. Gal.Thras.23; close up wounds, Id.11.440:—Pass., κολλέεσθαι, of poison entering the system, Hp.Ep.19 (Hermes 53.66); κολλᾷ καὶ συνδεῖ πάντα ἤθη [ὁ πόθος] Pl.Lg.776a:—Pass., cleave to, κεκόλληται γένος πρὸς ἄτᾳ is indissolubly bound to . . (Blomf. for προσάψαι), A.Ag.1566 (lyr.); “λόγος εἰς τὰ σπλάγχνα κολληθείςPhilem.113.4; of persons, “κ. τινίAct.Ap. 5.13; of things, “ κονιορτὸς κολληθείς τινιEv.Luc.10.11: sens. obsc., AP11.73 (Nicarch.).
