A kettle of iron or copper of any size, put over the fire to cook (
Hom. Il. xxi. 362;
Thuc.iv.
100).
2.
A basin, usually of silver, used by guests at dinner for washing their hands, which were
held over it while water was poured over them from above.
3.
Any vessel, as an urn for ashes (
Agam. 444), a bath-tub, etc.
