LISSA

LISSA (Λίσσα, Procop. B.G. 1.7; Itin. Anton.), an island off the coast of Illyricum, placed by Pliny (3.30) over against Iadera. Uglian, noted for its marbles, and an island which obtained a momentary importance during the wars of the Venetians, represents Lissa. (Wilkinson, Dalmatia and Montenegro, vol. i. p. 78.)
