ὡς πορρωτάτω . . . τῶν τοιούτων ὑποψιῶν, ‘as far as possible from such suspicions.’ The genitive is due to the idea of separation in πορρωτάτω. Adverbs in -ω generally keep this termination in the comparative and superlative; cp. ἄνω, ἀνωτέρω, ἀνωτάτω: the comparative πορρωτέρω is found in Phil. 122.

φιλεῖ τὸ πλῆθος κτἑ: for the sentiment cp. ad N. 31 τὸ τῆς πόλεως ὅλης ἦθος ὁμοιοῦται τοῖς ἄρχουσι, and note.
