Adirondack Park,

A tract in the Adirondack Mountain region covering Hamilton county and parts of Essex. Franklin, Herkimer, and St. Lawrence counties: containing numerous mountains. peaks, lakes, and woodlands. It was set apart by the State of New York in 1892 for the protection of the watershed of the Hudson and other rivers. for the practical study of forestry, and for public recreation. The tract has an area of 4,387 square miles. The study of forestry is here carried on under the direction of the newly established State School of Forestry, a department of Cornell University (q. v.).
