Alden, Henry Mills, 1836-

Editor; born in Mount Tabor, Vt., Nov. 11, 1836; was graduated at Williams College in 1857, and at Andover Theological Seminary in 1860. In the winter of 1863-64 he delivered before the Lowell Institute of Boston a series of twelve lectures on The structure of paganism; 1863-69 he was managing editor of Harper's weekly, and in 1869 became editor of Harper's magazine. He is the author of The ancient Lady of sorrow, a poem; God in his world; A study of death; and (with A. H. Guernsey) of Harper's pictorial history of the Great rebellion.
