Beall, John young, 1835-

Naval officer; born in Virginia, Jan. 1, 1835; received a commission in the Confederate navy, and on Sept. 19, 1864, he, in company with two others, in the dress of civilians, captured the Lake Erie steamer Philo Parsons. Subsequently they captured another steamer, Island Queen, and also attempted to wreck a railroad train near Buffalo on the night of his arrest, Dec. 16, 1864. He was tried by court martial, condemned, and hanged on Governor's Island, New York Harbor, Feb. 24, 1865.
