Broderick, Davis Colbreth, 1820-

Legislator: born in Washington., D. C.. Feb. 4, 1820: was actively engaged in New York politics until his removal to California in 1846, where he became a leader in political matters. He was elected a United States Senator for that State in 1856. In consequence of political difficulties he was challenged to fight a duel by David S. Terry, chief-justice of the Supreme Court of California; fell at the first fire; and died shortly thereafter, near Lake Merced, Cal., Sept. 16, 1859.
