Coudert, Frederic Rene 1832-

Lawyer; born in New York City, of French parentage, in 1832; graduated at Columbia College in 1850; and admitted to the bar in 1853. For many years he has represented France in its legal interests in the United States, and has become widely known as an expert in international law. He was a delegate to the International Congress in Antwerp; member of the Venezuela boundary commission in 1896; government receiver of the Union Pacific Railroad in 1892-98; and counsel of the United States before the Bering Sea Tribunal of Arbitration in Paris in 1893-95. Mr. Coudert has several times declined appointment to the Supreme Court of the United States.
