Military officer; born on Fuinen Island,
Denmark, in 1747; rendered military service before entering the
American army in April, 1775; was in the
battle of Bunker Hill, where he led a portion of a regiment of which he was adjutant; accompanied
Arnold to
Quebec a few months afterwards, where he was made a prisoner; and served with great fidelity throughout the war He was conspicuous in the assault on
Stony Point (July, 1779), leading one of the attacking columns; also at
Yorktown, where he commanded the 2d Virginia Regiment, with the rank of lieutenant-colonel.
From 1789 till his death, in
Philadelphia, Sept. 20, 1796,
Colonel Febiger was treasurer of the
State of Pennsylvania.
