twenty was State Geologist of Mississippi
In 1854-55 he was engaged in a geological survey of Alabama
, and from 1856 to 1860 held the post of mineralogical, geological, and agricultural surveyor of South Carolina
Serving in the Confederate army, he died of wounds received in the battle of Williamsburg
, in Richmond, Va.
