Price, Sterling 1809-1867

Military officer; born in Prince Edward county, Va., Sept. 11,

Sterling Price.

1809; was a member of Congress from Missouri (where he settled in 1830) in 1845; colonel of Missouri cavalry in the war against Mexico; and was made a brigadier-general and military governor of Chihuahua in 1847. He was governor of Missouri from 1853 to 1857, and president of the State convention in February, 1861. He was made major-general of the Missouri militia in May, and served the Confederacy throughout the Civil War. At the close of the war he went to Mexico, but returned to Missouri in 1866, and died in St. Louis, Sept. 29, 1867.
