and in the action at Nashville
, where he covered the retreat of Gen. John B. Hood
and prevented the capture of his army by Gen. George H. Thomas
He resumed law practice in Grenada, Miss.
, in 1871; was United States Senator
in 1885-98, with exception of the period from January, 1894, to March, 1895.
