Wereat, John -1798

Patriot; born about 1730; was an advocate of colonial rights; a member of the Provincial Congress in 1775; its speaker in 1776; and president of the executive council in 1779. He was president of the Georgia convention that ratified the Constitution of the United States; and did much to relieve the sufferings of the people west of Augusta in 1782. He died in Bryan county, Ga., in 1798.
