First Convention of Laymen of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

--A Convention of lay delegates of the M. E. Church, embracing three Conferences — the Baltimore, the East Baltimore, Philadelphia, and a portion of Western Virginia--was convened in Baltimore Wednesday, to take into consideration the adoption of the new chapter in the book of discipline, making slavery a test question in the matter of admission to membership. After choosing Hon. John A. Carter, of Va, Chairman, the body adjourned until next day.
