Gov. Houston Refuses to Recognize the State Convention, &c.--
Gen. Houston has refused to recognize the
Texas State Convention.
He considers that its functions terminated in submitting the
Secession Ordinance to the people.
He tells the
Convention that he and the Legislature, which meets on the 18th inst., will attend to public questions.--He favored the holding of a Convention to change the
State Constitution, but opposes
Texas joining the Southern Confederacy.--The Convention, in reply, have passed an Ordinance claiming full sovereign power, promising to consummate, as speedily as possible, the connection of
Texas with the
Confederate States.
The Convention will at once require all officers of the
State to take an oath of allegiance to support the new Government and carry out the
Convention Ordinances.
It is reported that
Clark will be put in
Gov. Houston's place, if the latter refuses to take the oath.
It is also reported that
Gov. Houston is raising troops on his own account. --Fifteen hundred Texan troops are at and near
Brownsville.
