It is a source of sincere regret that a paragraph found its way into our Local column, which might be construed to speak disrespectfully of certain religious rites and usages, which it is neither our province nor our desire to criticise. We have ever endeavored to treat with equal courtesy and fairness all religious denominations. We may add that the writer, in hastily preparing the paragraph alluded to, emphatically disclaims any intention to speak otherwise than respectfully of a Bishop, whose venerable age and blameless life command the universal reverence of the people of Virginia.
