Rumored loss of the U. S. Steam gunboat Seminole.

--This forenoon the most painful excitement prevailed in the naval circles of this city owing to the fact that a newspaper letter from Brazil, confirmed by two private communications, announced the melancholy intelligence that a burning propeller, supposed to be the U. S. steam gunboat Seminole, was seen off Pernambuco, Brazil. The Seminole left Norfolk to join our Brazil Squadron, on the 14th of July last, or thereabouts, and was consequently two months out on the 25th of Sept., at which date she had not reached Rio. The probability that the rumor of her loss is a cruel hoax, has been altogether overruled in view of the recent letters from the ship, which declared her to be a complete failure.--N. Y. Journal of Commerce, 6th.
