An awful future.
--A man named
Wm. D. Kingpin, who had committed a most atrocious murder in
Michigan a short time since, and been convicted of the crime, was sentenced to the
State Prison for life.
Last week he entered his dreary abode — a solitary dark cell, with but a small dim light from above, there to remain as long as his life shall last — never to be permitted to have a word of conversation with any human being — never to write a word to; or hear from, his family or any other individual — never to know anything that occurs in the world outside — having nothing to divert himself henceforth, as long as life shall last, from reflection upon the awful crime he committed and its terrible retribution.
He entered his dismal cell with a full realization of his condition, and with scarcely sufficient strength to maintain an erect position.
Could death come in any shape, to a mind capable of fully appreciating its approach, more horrible than such a one as that!
