died at his residence on Long Island
He was a native of North Carolina
, born in 1788, and ciliated at Newbern
In 1802 became to New York, where he remained for some time.
He subsequently went to Providence, R. I.
, where he was employed as a clerk.
He was next employed by John Jacob Actor
, and in that position traveled extensively He was a member of Congress from this State from 1823 to 1829 during which time heated as chairman of a severally very important committees.
He was somewhat celebrated as a political writer and thinker, a reputation well sustained by his reports and pamphlets, which always attracted considerable attention.

appointed him Minister to Russia
On his return he retired to private life, and there remained till the hour of his death
