Mayor's Court, Thursday, October 3d, 1862--
Henry W
Lee was brought up for obtruding himself, on Wednesday night, into the private promises of
John E. Humphreys, and abusing the watchmen who bought to remove him. Mail was required of him to appear before the Hustings Court Grand Jury on the second Monday in November.
Wm Conaway, arrested at a house of had repute in Exchange Alley, was sent to jail for further examination, on the charge of stealing Peter
Born's horse.
Margaret Parvo was rent to jail to await an indictment before the
Grand Jury, for initiating a fight with
Pocahontas Kiper, on Main street, Sunday last; and the latter gave ball for her future good behavior, and to appear as a witness against her antagonist.
John Robinson, a member of the 5th Louisiana regiment, arrested for obtruding himself in the private office of
J. P. Ballard, of the
Exchange Hotel, and resisting the watchmen, was detained to be reported to
Gen. Winder.
Dennis O'Brien and
John McDonald, arrested for getting into John Clash's carriage and taking his negroes coat on leaving the same, were commented in default of security to appear before the Hustings Court and answer the charge of misdemeanor.
James Johnson McCaba, implicated in the killing of
Kelley and
Downes, was called up and had his case continued until Tuesday next, on which day the
Mayor said he would discharge or commit the prisoner.
Johnson was formerly a U. S. soldier, but left and joined the Confederate army.
He declares his innocence in of any compi ty in the transaction for which he has been arrested.
Alice Rawkins,
Maria Gary,
Elizabeth Valentine, and
Abigale Mitchell, the women arrested a few nights since in a house, rear of the Varsities, were called up and examined, and the three last named sent to jail in default of haft for their good behavior.
Alice Hawkins, who has an infant a few months old to take care of, was let off by the
Mayor on that account, though he enjoined on
Hawkins the necessity of leaving her present place of residence, if she wished in future to avoid molestation.
A number of men appeared to answer the charge of being persons of evil name, fame, and character, and suspicious persons having no visible means of supports.

James Sexton, on 17th street, between Broad and Marshall, the police brought up, besides the proprietor,

Jas. J. Cox, 9th street, below Main, (a few days since) John H

George Johnson,
William Farrar,
John Anderson,
Simon Licbick.
Robert Thompson,
John Kelley,
James Murdy,
Pat. Keenan, George Dote, and
William Breetlan.--None of the parties are citizens of
Richmond, but came from different points of the
Confederacy, either in the possession of the enemy, or threatened by him. All had three of those arrested at
Sexton's showed that they were either employed, and obtained visible means of support in that way, or were discharged soldiers, waiting like
Wilkins Macawher, for ‘"something to turn up."’ Those who could give no satisfactory account of themselves were committed for want of ball.
Most of
Cox's boarders were retired from active life by a demand of this kind.
Mr. Bradley made an urgent appeal in behalf of
John H. Baldwin, found with others at
Cox's rendezvous, and the
Mayor promised to retain him along with several others, and report him to
Gen. Wicder, who was engaged to visit the City Hall at half part 1 o'clock, for the purpose of a conference with His Honor.
There were some two dozen soldiers in Court, with mothers for the purpose of aiding the civil authorities in conveying the prisoners to jail.
The
Mayor expressed his regret that the city work house was not prepared to receive the large number of candidates for admission, but said that he should at an early day reestablish the chain-gang.
Called Court--A called Court of Magistrates convened yesterday morning at the City Hall, to ex
Albert O. Stort, charged with murdering
James T. Gray on the 13d day of October, 1862. Upon hearing the evidence, the
Court was of the opinion that the said Short ought to be cent on to the
Bustings Court to be tried for the offence, at the November term, before
Judge Lyons, and that Short be remanded to Jail.
John P. Smith, charged with committing a felonious theft, was also sent on to the November term of
Judge Lyone's Court, to be tried for the offence.
C.S. District Court.--The care, of Enquire, who stand charged with passing counterfeit Treasury notes, was further examined yesterday.
The principal witness against the prisoner was a colored woman, who, in giving in her testimony, swore to appoint
black lie, whereupon the prosecuting attorney entered a
proiqul, in the five indictments found against the seemed, and he was discharged.
To-day is set art for the trial of
J. Tesler, who stands charged with uttering and passing notes against the ‘"peace and dignity of the
Commonwealth."’
