Casualties in the Washington Artillery battalion, of New Orleans, at Fredericksburg, May 3d:

  1. first company--Killed: Sergt W H West, corporal T J Lutman, private J H Florence wounded: Corpl C a Everett. Prisoners: Capt Squires, Lts Owen and Galbraith, Sergt Hardie, Privates Alsohook, Berthelot, Bogent, Tellowes, Hanly, Harris, McCormick, Micose, Myers, Phelps, E Peshand, C Peshand, Florence, Siebault Turner, T S Turner, Vincent, Eshman Hock, Kennedy, Ryerson Smith.
  2. Second company--wounded: Lt Derussy, Privates Kirk and Coln. Prisoners: Privates Summers, Coleman, Giffern.
  3. third company--Killed: Corpl R P many. Wounded: Privates Adams and frank. Captured: Sergeant Handy, Privates noble and Dicks.
  4. Fourth company--Killed: Corp'l Lewis. Wounded: Corp'l Valentine, Privates Callahan and Anderson.
the 1st company lost one Napoleon and one 3 inch rifle gun; the 2d company lost one 12 pounder Howitzer; the 3d company lost two Napoleons and one caisson; and the 4th company lost one Napoleon and one 12-pounder Howitzer.

  3. company C, Captain P. Woolfolk.--Killed: Private John T Mosby. Wounded: 2d Lieut W D Terrill, head, slightly; Privates Jno L Thompson, arm amputated; Jno R Mills, chest, severely.
  4. company D, Capt, Parker.--Killed: none. Wounded: corporal T C Howard, head, slight; Privates G W Jones, hand, slight; Jas B Longbridge, hip, slight; Robert Dunnaway, head, slight; George Hancock, leg, slight; Lewis Luck, leg, slight; Jas C Orange, head, slight; a Gill, hand, slight.
  5. company E, Eubank's Battery, 1st Lieut. O. B. Taylor, commanding.--Killed: James Harley. Wounded: 2d Lieut John H Weddell, leg, with fracture of tibia, severe; Privates V F Buford, Thos E Taylor, and Algernon Tyler, burned by explosion of caisson, slight; Philip Lewis, leg, slight; Edward Childress, leg, slight.
  6. company E, Rhett's Battery, 2d Lieut. Gilbert commanding.--Killed: none. Wounded: none.

Killed: Private W C Land. Wounded: Lieut W T Peet, in leg; corporal J H Walters, in both hands; privates J W Floyd, right arm blown off; M C Keeling, in left foot; J H Day, in hand, and C K McKeown, in back.

This battery fought Weed's celebrated battery, (U. S. Regulars) on the turnpike road for four hours, disabling it so much as to cause it to retire, after a heavy loss in killed and wounded.
