--The
Chattanooga Rebel, of Thursday last, says the situation in
Tennessee improves at an amazing rate.
Troops that have been sent to reinforce
Gen. Johnston in
Mississippi are being sent back to the
Grand Army of Middle Tennessee.
Our advices from
Mississippi, says the
Rebel, are of the most cheering character, yet we are at a loss to comprehend why
General Johnston should have sent
Gen. Breckinridge's corps back to
Middle Tennessee.
He must be in a secure condition, either from his position or from an abundance of troops.
Our dispatches state that
Grant is being heavily reinforced, but no fears need be entertained on that score, as
Gen. Johnston has received the very flower of our noble armies.
From the front various rumors come up — all of them foreshadowing an early advance of our forces.
Let us "clear the decks and prepare for action."
