The Legislature.

A resolution of inquiry was adopted as to whether the Superintendent of the Salt Works had transcended the powers given him so far as relates to impressments, and whether any legislation is necessary to compel him to carry out in good faith the contracts and liabilities entered into and assumed by Stuart, Buchanan & Co., as to the property which was transferred by them to the State.

A bill for the relief of Wm. E. C. Douglas, late Steward of the Lunatic Asylum at Williamsburg, was passed.

In the House bills were reported for the relief of the personal representatives of A. B. Urquhart, Jos. E. Gillett, and Madison J. Davis; authorizing the payment of a sum of money to Henry Exall, of Richmond, for drawings, plans, and specifications of the armory; and, providing for the impressment of slaves for hospital purposes.

A resolution of inquiry for the reorganization of the office of Register of the Land Office was adopted.

Also, a resolution for making an appropriation to the Chimborazo and other hospitals where Virginia soldiers are treated.

Also, one for the encouragement of domestic manufactures, and one for amending the law now in force in regard to ordinary licenses.

The House, by resolution agreed to meet, on and after Monday, at the hour of 11 o'clock A. M.

The balance of the session was consumed in the consideration of the bill regulating railroad transportation.
