It is positively stated that Averill is preparing for a big raid on the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad. A negro ran a red hot wire into a shell at Charleston the other day to find out if it contained powder. He found out! Wm. Gray Strickland, an old citizen residing near Raleigh, N. C., was waylaid in the road and murdered last week. The steamer Advance has run into Wilmington with another cargo on North Carolina account. The secret of Miss. Braddon's "availability" has just come out. She has married a publisher.
