Northern News.

The New York Herald of the 11th instant, received in Petersburg, contains very little news. A very large meeting for McClellan was held in New York on Wednesday. The chief point, in a very long and nonsensical report of it in the Herald, seems to have been the firing of a cannon when "the McClellan flag was seen slowly to rise."

The Indians are again very troublesome in the Northwest.

Washington correspondence says that Grant wants Meade removed, and that Butler will be Secretary of War if Stanton resigns.

Lincoln is said to favor McClellan's return to the army.

The Washington Chronicle of the 11th says that General Smith had left Memphis another expedition.
