False Alarm.

--The ringing of the fire bells yesterday about half-past 12 o'clock was caused by the burning of a chimney in the upper part of the city. The members of the Fire Brigade, who were doing duty on the streets at the time, dropped their muskets and ran to the engine-houses; but as soon as it was ascertained that their services were not needed in that line, the implements of warfare were again shouldered and the work of examining passes was again resumed.
