On January 23d, the election came up again by assignment, and resulted in the same manner, Mr. Sumner receiving 187 votes, 192 being necessary to a choice. On the 26th of February, the sixteenth ballot was taken, but no choice was made, Mr. Sumner lacking two votes of the number necessary for his election. The matter came up every two weeks regularly, with the same result, until the 24th of April, when the end was reached, as will be seen by the following report of that day's proceedings: The House was called to order at 9 o'clock, and prayer was offered by Rev. Mr. Stone.
