Proceedings in the Courts. Mayor's Court, Tuesday, Nov. 4. --Present: Joseph Mayo, Mayor.--Henry, slave of John Hitchcock, having been found by the watchmen Monday night with a quantity of brandy in his possession, for which he could not account, was whipped. The fluid was ordered to be confiscated, but to whose use the reporter did not learn. Richard, slave of Joseph Hierholzer, arrested as a runaway, exhibited to the Court a pass signed by Robert W. Oliver. Defendant committederty of Aug. R. Brummel, worth $500. The case was continued, and Mr. Dubois admitted to ball in the sum of $500 for his appearance, with Alex B. Wells as surety. The parties concerned were formerly partners in business. Hustings Court, Tuesday, Nov. 4. --Present: Hon. Wm. H. Lyons, Judge.--There being no case on the docket ready for trial, no jury was summoned to attend Court to-day. Frederick J. The 4th of November. Two years ago yesterday occurred the election of the man who was chosen to the Presidency of the United States, by a sectional vote, and who has ruled over the section by which he was chosen, but has not been able to extend his dominion over the States which disowned his authority. In these two years have been crowded events which make them more than equal to a century of common life. The progress of the United States in population, wealth, and power, was often and justly boasted of in former days as the most rapid and wonderful in history. In the lifetime of a man it sprang to the front rank of the nations of the earth; but in less than the weaning time of a child it came to its end.
