oncerning the early tavern keepers of Medford, and these sources of information are far from being satisfactory. A careful search of the records and files fail to show that a public house of entertainment was licensed in Medford prior to the year 1690, although from the testimony of Mr. Dunton, there was an ordinary kept in Medford as early as 1686. There were many persons licensed as innholders from the year 1690 to the year 1831, whose places of business cannot be located. It is hardly fair, however, to speak of such places as taverns, for they were only saloons for the siquors, and the same may also be said of some of those previously mentioned.
