From Norfolk. "Heavy Firing"--Capt. De Lagned promoted — Adjournment of the Court-Martial — the Christmas holidays — Norfolk Markets, &c. [special Correspondence of the Dispatch.] Norfolk Dec. 21, 1861. The heavy and rapid discharges of cannon, heard here yesterday, were sufficient to justify the supposition that the fight had commenced between the abolition fleet and our powerful batteries below. But, as I have not heard that the contest is really going on, it is probable that the brave men at the guns are testing their accuracy and power. The firing commenced early in the morning and continued vigorously until 11.15. The gallant Capt. J. De Lagael, who has been exchanged, has been promoted to a Lieutenant-Colonel, and received orders to report for duty at Craney Island, Major Smith having determined to resume his duties at the Virginia Military Institute. The general court-martial, which has been in session in Portsmouth for some time, adjourned yes<
