Hall, Robert Henry 1837-
Military officer; born in Detroit, Mich., Nov. 15, 1837; graduated at the United States Military Academy in 1860; was promoted to second and first lieutenant of the 10th Infantry in 1861; captain in 1863; major of the 22d Infantry in 1883; lieutenantcolonel of the 6th Infantry in 1888; and colonel of the 4th Infantry, May 18, 1893.
In the volunteer service he was appointed a brigadier-general May 27, 1898; was honorably discharged under that commission and reappointed to the same rank April 15, 1899; and on the reorganization of the regular army in February, 1901, he was appointed one of the new brigadiergenerals.
During the Civil War he served or the frontier; in the Rappahannock campaign; in the operations about Chattanooga; and in the action at Weldon, Va., where he was wounded.
In 1865-71 he was again on frontier duty, and in 1871-78 was on duty at the United States Military Academy.

Military officer; born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 5, 1840; entered the regular army from civil life; was commissioned first lieutenant of the 16th Infantry in 1861; promoted captain in 1864; major of the 24th Infantry in 1887; lieutenantcolonel of the 9th Infantry in 1892; and colonel of the 21st Infantry, April 30, 1897.
During the Civil War he was brevetted captain, April 7, 1862, for gallantry at Shiloh, and major, Sept. 1, 1864, for gallantry in the Atlanta campaign.
On May 27, 1898, he was appointed a brigadier-general of volunteers for the war with Spain, and on March 15, 1899, was honorably discharged from that service.

Sanger, Joseph P. 1875-
Military officer; born in Michigan; distinguished himself in the Civil War, receiving two brevets; accompanied General Upton on his tour of inspection of the armies of Japan, France, Austria, and England in 1875-77; was appointed inspector of volunteers with the rank of lieutenant-colonel in May, 1898; promoted brigadier-general of volunteers May 27, 1898.
On Dec. 23 of the latter year he was ordered to the command of the Department of Matanzas, Cuba.
