equently in a battle near Asheville, N. C. Since the war he has given his attention to merchandising, farming and railroading. For four years he was superintendent of the Carolina, Knoxville & Western railroad. Mr. Byrd located in Anderson county, near Belton, in 1893, and is a member of Camp Anderson, U. C. V., of Belton. He has been twice married, first on November 17, 1864, to Miss Amanda J. Boyce, sister of Captain Boyce, who died December 21, 1888, and in 1893 he was married to Mrs. Anna L. Brown, sister-in-law of ex-Gov. Joseph E. Brown of Georgia. After the war he was captain of a militia company in Laurens county for about three years. For twenty years he was a merchant in Greenville and during that time served as alderman two terms. He was secretary and treasurer of the Greenville & Laurens railroad during the period of its construction. Captain Jacob W. Cagle Captain Jacob W. Cagle, of Greenville, S.
