The spirit of Hanover. At a meeting of the citizens of Hanover, held at Negro foot, on Saturday, the 10th day of May, 1862. J. D. G. Brown was called to the Chair, and C. Cooke appointed Secretary. The following preamble and resolution were presented by D. C. Berkeley, and unanimously adopted: Whereas, it may happen in the fortunes of war that our enemies may invade and occupy this part of our State and county, we, the people, deem this a proper time for us to renew our pledges of deyet and establish our freedom on an reconstructible last. Resolved, That in the opinion of this meeting in the event of our county being occupied by the enemy, it is best that all who, from age or other disability, cannot render efficient aid to the common cause, should remain at home with their families and pursue their usual vocations. Resolved, That the papers of the city of Richmond be requested to publish these resolutions. J. D. G. Brown, Chairman. Cook, Secretary.
