Some dealers now demand 90 cents to 31 for Tallow. This is more than was asked a day on two since for Dennis's Opal, a lot having been sold at 85 cents. Coffee.--$3.75 per lb. Molasses.--Last sales 65 per gallon. None now in market. It would bring more. Sugars.--Have advanced. We quote Brown at 90@95 cents; and White Clarified at $1@1.10. Salt--40@45 cents per lb. Rice--Old, 9 cents by the tierce. No new in market. Lard--70 to 75 cents per lb; and very scarce. Liquors--Are rapidly rising in price. Good Apple Brandy now brings $20; Whiskey, $22.50@25; and French Brandy, $30@35 per gallon. Tea--$11@15 per lb. Turkeys.--Dressed, 40@50 cents per lb. A sale was made to-day of a lot of live Turkeys at $6 a piece, but this was considered high. Soap--Country. 65@70
Arrests. --The city police made the following arrests yesterday: Elizabeth Kenling, by Messrs. Bibb and Perrin, as a woman of evil name, fame, and reputation, and for obtaining money by false presences; Royal H. Brown, Robert Wright, and Bob Castole, free negroes, on the charge of stealing.
Discharged. --Sam. Levy, company K, 15th Louisiana, arrested as a deserter and put in Castle Thunder, has been discharged therefrom, having been arrested through mistake by his Captain. The three men, Robert Custolo, Royal H. Brown, and Wm. White, arrested and carried before the Mayor on Saturday for stealing $40 from Thos. S Barr, were honorably discharged after an examination of five minutes, there not being the slightest proof that they had committed an offence against Barrsor anybody else.
