the letter: A report came to our camp, a few days since, that a flat-boat loaded with "Seceshers" was lying down the stream some distance, and that the rebellious subjects were engaged in exchanging whiskey for the clothes of our men. Major G. B. Browne, as soon as the information was received, was dispatched with a squad of men to investigate the matter. Upon arriving at the locality, they found the statement correct, and, after a slight skirmish, took the party prisoners. In the skirmish Major Browne received a slight wound from a sabre in the hands of one of the rebels. The wound was slight, but was sufficient to draw the blood. Jeffersonville is situated on the Ohio river, nearly opposite Louisville, immediately above the falls. The site is elevated, and a beautiful view of Louisville and the river is afforded.
