Burns, Anthony,
Negro slave; was seized in Boston, as a fugitive slave, May 27, 1854.
After a judicial hearing he was remanded to slavery and was taken to the wharf and shipped South under a strong guard to prevent his rescue by anti-sla-very sympathizers.
The event created great excitement, and subsequently his freedom was purchased by a subscription raised in Boston, and after his release he settled in Canada.
