Assaulting the watchmen. --Wm. Cavanaugh, Thomas Davlin and James W. Carsow were arrested and caged last Tuesday night, for assaulting and beating watchmen Franklin and Ball, while in the discharge of their lawful duty. The trio, who are said to reside in Rocketts old field, came to the city to put it to rights, and hearing music and dancing in Frank Botto's house, near the corner of 24th and Main streets, stepped in without invitation and commenced an exhibition of their proficiency in tly drew a bead on Franklin, and give him a dig on the head, which Franklin returned with interest, causing the claret to flow.--Cavanaugh then pitched in with his shillalah, but Franklin parried his blows, and gave him an "upper cut" above the fly trap that settled his hash. Davlin, finding his chums in limbo, attempted to rescue them, but the officers of the law proved too stout and bore them to the cage. They were heard before the Mayor, and remanded for indictment by the next Grand Jury.
