Du Pont and the Port Royal expedition.
recently, the private correspondence of Admiral Du Pont has been kindly put within the scope of my researches, and his very clear and precise reports of the Port Royal expedition have been carefully exami s follows: There is one touching incident that I think deserves record.
When the old hero Tattnall got in good range of Du Pont's flag-ship, and was about to receive his fire, he said to the signal quartermaster : Dip my broad pennant to my old messmate, and it was dipped thrice.
