S. A., by Capt. Fitzgerald.--We learn from Lt. N. B. Dickinson that a fine battery of serviceable guns has been furnished, and the company is now engaged perfecting itself in drill. On Monday night Jim, a slave, owned by John Chewing, of Fairfax county, on some slight misunderstanding occurring at the Monticello House, between himself and Andrew, slave of Mrs. Sally Gray, of Port Royal, Caroline county, drew a bowie-knife and plunged it to the hilt in the breast of the latter, who fell dead. Florence's battery. --This battery, which is being raised by Capt. L. Florence, Jr., late Lieutenant in Louisiana Zouaves, will be attached to Fitzgerald's regiment of light artillery, and offers a rare chance for young men to enter a select and chosen company, the latter being complete in all respects, and the commander having had three year's experience in the artillery service.

Virginia oyster trade. Fort Monroe, December 10. --A large delegation of oystermen held a meeting in Norfolk yesterday, and passed resolutions appointing a committee, of which Captain Henry Fitzgerald is chairman, to go to Richmond for the purpose of obtaining a revision of the laws regulating the oyster trade in Virginia.

pe Fire Company, No. 1, of Manchester, was re-organized on Tuesday night last under the superintendence of William Whitworth, Esq., Principal Engineer Manchester Fire Department. The following officers were elected: Emmett J. Mann, foreman; Henry Fitzgerald, first assistant; Andrew J. Wells, second assistant; James A. Gentry, secretary, and William Whitworth, treasurer. The company has already about thirty names on the roll, and is expecting large additions. A committee, consisting of Messrs.on the roll, and is expecting large additions. A committee, consisting of Messrs. Whitworth, Pollard and Wells, were appointed to examine into the condition of the apparatus, and report at the next meeting. A committee was also appointed, consisting of Messrs. Mann, Fitzgerald and Gentry, to prepare by- laws and regulations for the government of the organization. The meeting then adjourned to Tuesday next. The gentlemen concerned in this movement merit great praise for their public spirit.
