kinson, Andrew J. Plumer, aldermen. The city clerk and city treasurer in 1861 was Horace C. Lee; in 1862, Samuel B. Spooner, Jr.; in 1863, 1864, and 1865, Albert F. Folsom. Horace C. Lee resigned Oct 21, 1861, to take command of the Twenty-seventh Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, and Henry Smith was chosen to serve the balance of the year. Samuel B. Spooner, Jr., resigned Sept. 30, 1862, to accept the commission of captain of Company A, Forty-sixth Regiment, and Albert F. Folsom was chosen to fill the vacancy, and has remained in office ever since. 1861. The first action taken by the city, in regard to the war, was the passage of a resolve by thus paid would exceed the quota required of the city of Springfield under the call of the President for three hundred thousand men for nine months service. Mr. Folsom, the city treasurer and clerk of Springfield, writes:— The sentiments of our citizens have been much better expressed by the promptness with which they met
