with the rules of the Senate. The motion prevailing, the President appointed Messrs. Clay, Barnwell, Wigfall, Yancey, Henry and Davis. Messrs. Clay and Yancey declined, and were excused from serving on the committee. Mr. Clay moved the Senate adjourn until Monday, the intervening time being required to organize the committees. He had presented the resolution relating to the contract for flour with Haxall, Crenshaw & Co., upon information which he believed warranted him in asking for an investigation. He had no reply to make to a publication in one of the morning papers. The information which he now possessed, satisfied him that the frauds were much more enormous than at first supposed, and he trusted the committee would investigate them
