The Senate agreed to a resolution passed by the House of Delegates providing for the appointment of a committee of five on the part of the House and three on the part of the Senate to call on Mr. Edmund Bruce with a view of ascertaining whether the life-size portrait of General R. E. Lee, now being completed by him, can be purchased for the State of Virginia, and thereupon the President pro tem. appointed Messrs. Garrison, Nash and Garnett as said committee on the part of the Senate. A communication received from the Second Auditor in response to a resolution of the Senate calling for a report of the arrears of interest due on the funded debt of the State since January 1, 1861, was read, and, on motion of Mr. Newman, of Mason, referred to Committee on Finance. The Senate then went into secret session on motion of Mr. Armstrong, of Hampshire, after which, on the opening of the doors, it adjourne
