The third Cavalry regiment--Col. Goods's official report. Headq'rs 3d Reg't Va. Cavalry, Slatersville, New Kent county, Va., May 8th, 1863. Lieut. Col. Iriam, A. A General, Cavalry Brigade: Sir: I have the honor to report that on Sunday, the 4th inst., soon after leaving Blow's Mill, I was informed by Gen. Stuart that a number of Federal cavalry had passed above us, intercepting our communication with Williamsburg, and, at the same time, was ordered to move with a detachment of my regiwere others, not seen, under cover of the woods. They had, also, some wounded — the number not known. Our loss was one sergeant and one horse, killed; one lieutenant and three privates wounded, who were brought off the field. The engagement acted some twenty-five minutes. It may be appropriate to add that four of my regiment were captured on that day, white acting as couriers and videttes. I am, sir; very respectfully; Your obedient servant, Thomas F. Goods, Col. Commd'g 31. Va. Cavalry.
